Northvolt’s Raw Materials team is looking for a motivated intern to help with tasks related to business modelling. You will add detail to a business model for our conversion plant to enable the evaluation and comparison of different sites for establishment, including different logistics solutions. More specifically you will develop an already existing financial model for the conversion plant (partly in excel), including the possibility to input different parameters to study the impact on IRR and profit of the business. The parameters to be evaluated are related to logistical flows of material in- and outbound to and from the conversion plant. Our Västerås-based Process Engineering team is looking for talented interns who want to be a part of our engineering teams for Cell Assembly and Formation & Ageing of Li-ion batteries.
Cell Assembly is a fast paced and highly automated process and for this team we are looking for highly motivated candidates who have an understanding of automation and mechatronics and an educational background in Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering. You would join the team in various engineering tasks as well as being part of and coordinating projects. Formation & Ageing in Li-ion battery manufacturing is the activation process where the cells are activated by electrical charging and discharging. We are looking for highly motivated candidates who have an understanding of automation and mechatronics and an educational background in Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering. Formation & Ageing is needed for the batteries to reach stable conditions, as well as for Northvolt to measure and gather data on several properties such as voltage and internal resistance. We are looking for driven Prototype Engineering Intern that wants to support the Battery systems team. In this role you will be engaged in physically building early concept batteries, subcomponents, and related manufacturing tooling to enable high volume production. You will likely be involved in equipment selection, setup, and operation of a next generation battery module and pack fabrication lab. Our Process Engineering Team, which develops the part of our production that produces the cathode active material is looking for a driven intern that want to be part of a process and utilities team to develop an Energy and mass balance model for our plant in Skellefteå. We believe that you have a background in studying Engineering, preferably Chemical or Energy Engineering. You will report directly to Director of Process Engineering (for Upstream) and you will get to learn more about the handling of chemical materials in a world leading battery factory. This role is based in Västerås.
The Northvolt Quality Control and Performance & Life test teams in Västerås are looking for driven interns. As an in tern in either team, you will be working on various analyses, controls and tests of battery materials, components, intermediate product and finished li-ion cells. You will be part of an innovative, enthusiastic and friendly team! You will be trained to independently run advanced instruments and equipment in one of our laboratories. Factory Controls / Mechatronics
Our excellent R&D Lab team is looking for a top-notch mechanical/mechatronics engineer with excellent skills/knowledge in both CAD and material properties. You will be working on CAD design to fabrication of various jigs and hardware parts in support of continuous improvement of cell fabrication in the R&D Laboratory. While we are currently producing prototype cells in support of our design team, we continually face challenges in moving cell components in the “grey areas” between specific operational steps. Based in Västerås, you will help tackle the challenge of designing and trialing cost effective solutions to some of these problems to both speed throughput, but more importantly increase product yield.
We are looking for an intern who wants to work with the Battery Systems, Stationary Energy Storage team in Stockholm/Liljeholmen in developing novel products for introduction to the market. Northvolt’s Factory Controls team is looking for an innovative and driven intern who can be part of developing and driving control systems for scaled battery production. You will be a direct member of the Factory Controls engineering team supporting us with various project case studies to finalize and integrate equipment control systems securing equipment connectivity for Northvolt advanced factories. Battery Systems Product Design: Mechanical Engineering / Thermal Engineering

Our Industrial Business unit are looking for motivated thermal design engineers to join our team in Stockholm, Liljeholmen. As an intern in this role, you will support the design and development of battery thermal management for Northvolt li-ion battery modules and packs by using 3D CADs software. You will help analyze and interpret customer requirements to determine feasibility of product proposal and suggest improvement and development areas. Environmental / Sustainability
Our Raw Materials team is looking for a motivated intern to help create an environmental and process flow benchmark, comparing a number of different processes available on the market, for producing battery grade LiOH. This part of the work is to be based on existing public material and is desktop work. The comparison will be done with respect to environmental aspects such as residues, byproducts, effluents and other outputs to air and/or water. In addition, some lab work can be done, targeting an environmental test work within an ongoing EIT project. You will report to the MD of Raw Materials, be based in Stockholm, and be part of a friendly and driven team. To be successful in this role we believe you have a background studying environmental engineering or similar.
The Environmental team is looking for a talented and driven intern who wants to work with the environmental aspects in monitoring our production. You will work closely with the environmental engineers at the facility in Västerås and join us in our work with environmental permits, LCA, chemical management and CSR – among other things. You will also work closely with our other teams to collect information. We think you are an independent person with a strong can-do-attitude and preferably you have a background in Environmental engineering or Environmental Management studies.

Northvolt’s recycling program – Revolt – is currently looking for interns from a range of disciplines to get involved with closing the loop on batteries and ensuring they will not go to waste. The projects are surrounding discharging, dismantling, crushing, and hydrometallurgy. The Construction team has an exciting internship opportunity for an Installation Coordinator to help coordinate the installation work of the mechanical installations at Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå. As Mechanical Installation Coordinator you will be assist in supervising the installation works of our contractors, and supporting the safe, on-time and on-budget delivery of the agreed mechanical scope of work. We believe you have a suitable engineering degree and significant experience with similar projects.
As part of the Quality team within construction you will support with various tasks ensuring the quality of the project. You will work with colleagues who produce and consume the data, telling stories using data visualization tools.

Our Stockholm-based Digitalization team, which develops software and data solutions to make the world’s smartest battery, is looking for a motivated intern. You will help build the platform that enables large-scale data collection and effective software development. You will design, test and deploy infrastructure to operate a modern factory producing large amounts of data and also enable connected batteries to deliver vital performance metrics. You will collaborate with software engineers to develop automation solutions for how we safely test and deploy code on anything from battery packs to cloud to factory equipment. You will be developing a state of the art “cloud first” infrastructure through infrastructure as code as well as CI/CD frameworks and cross-platform software development frameworks.
Ideally, you should have experience from and/or interest in cloud technologies (AWS/GCP/Azure) and DevOps processes. You will be part of a high-performing, enthusiastic and friendly team! Frontend Software Engineering
We are looking for highly motivated problem-solvers that will help us build state of the art applications for our intelligent batteries and connected factories. Robotics Engineering and Computer Vision
Our Factory Software team in Stockholm is looking for an intern interested in working with Vision Robotics. You will support in building and deploying a variety of tools for visualizing, debugging, and validating layers in the vision pipeline. You will develop algorithms, primarily in C/C++, Go, Python to process massive amounts of manufacturing data for online and offline processing. You should have some experience and show interest in computer vision and/or robotics projects in school or in open source community.
Technical Product Management
The Northvolt Digitalization Team is looking for an open-minded and sharp intern who is passionate to work on state-of-the-art sustainability projects in the field of smart factories. As we aim to establish the worlds most automated battery production in an Industry 4.0 fashion, in parallel with becoming the industry leader in battery optimization, collecting data, developing concepts, and prioritizing software features will be key.
Based in Stockholm, will be supporting the product management team with various products, projects and case studies used for prioritization of new features. You will have a chance and be expected to take on responsibilities early on, working with tight deadlines in order to deliver high-quality and out-of-the-box results. You will be involved in designing and establishing the connectivity infrastructure for Northvolt’s first gigafactory. Battery Systems Product Design: Software Engineering/Electrical Engineering

In this role you will support the design and implementation of tests to check quality and functionality of products. You will get to participate in all phases of testing, from determining the exact procedure to troubleshooting errors and communicating recommendations for improvement to the rest of the product development team. We believe you have a background studying electrical or mechanical engineering.
Our Stockholm-based Battery Management Systems team is looking for a driven intern who wants to support in BMS related tasks when it comes to production, commissioning and support related issues. You will help develop functionality for Battery Management and other related control systems and be involved in gathering, developing, formulating and documenting system and software functionality requirements. Part of this role includes supporting in solving system malfunctions or software related issues discovered by customers. If they stop the customer, the root cause needs to be found and the problem fixed quite fast. Therefore, we believe you are an active problem-solver, able to think on your feet and collaborate with everyone. You have probably studied Data Science, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or other relevant discipline for embedded software development and have good knowledge of C programming for embedded systems.
